Holy cow! Movable Type 3.2 is finally released, after tons and tons of hard work by the whole team. I'm always excited when we release new stuff at Six Apart (which we do a lot), but this is our only product that actually goes out the door instead of being hosted, so it just feels different.

I'll save the "I'm so proud of you" stuff for our internal blogs, but for now, I'd just tell everyone to try it out. After all the work we put in, I'm completely shameless about writing a post to pimp ourselves out. MT's now super-simple to install, lets you have unlimited blogs (even on the free version) and lets you manage all those blogs in one place. I could go on, but there's dozens of other features we've already talked about. In short, Movable Type 3.2 kicks ass.

I'm just beginning to test MT 3.2 and it looks good so far, features- and aesthetics- wise. Just a little question: Is there a particular reason Six Apart continues to use "underscores" instead of "dashes" as word separators for entry filenames?

MT 3.2 makes it easy to choose either method, but underscores were an aesthetic choice, I think, and that way the URLs are the same as the default URLs in TypePad, so people can switch between the platforms while preserving their paths easily.

To be honest, I don't know why some tools are so fixated on appeasing people who treat Googlebot like some kind of angry voodoo god. If you write good enough content, it doesn't matter what separator you're using for words in your URLs. The converse is true as well.

Yes, indeed! And I'm pleased to find out that the new basename feature basically allows anyone to put in almost anything to serve as the entry filename. Kudos to 6A for the latest release.
