Movable Type 3.2 is out!
August 25, 2005
Holy cow! Movable Type 3.2 is finally released, after tons and tons of hard work by the whole team. I'm always excited when we release new stuff at Six Apart (which we do a lot), but this is our only product that actually goes out the door instead of being hosted, so it just feels different.
I'll save the "I'm so proud of you" stuff for our internal blogs, but for now, I'd just tell everyone to try it out. After all the work we put in, I'm completely shameless about writing a post to pimp ourselves out. MT's now super-simple to install, lets you have unlimited blogs (even on the free version) and lets you manage all those blogs in one place. I could go on, but there's dozens of other features we've already talked about. In short, Movable Type 3.2 kicks ass.

Congrats to the team over at Six Apart for the release of Movable Type 3.2! I've been using it in beta for the past few weeks, and I really can't say enough about how many improvements they've baked into... Read More
Saw over on Anil's site that they've release MT 3.2 today. So, what does any geek do? i upgraded. And it was the smoothest upgrade procedure MT has ever had. So far i like the little graphical changes they've... Read More
Almost two months after I prematurely declared that Movable Type 3.2 was released, it is now here. Six Apart has the details. I actually saw Anil's announcement first. But it was Brad's post that really sparked my attention today:The just-released... Read More
I've got a tedious issue which I've been ignoring, but probably should get sorted out. I've discussed it with a number of bright people, who have proposed solutions which I've either forgotten or discarded for reasons I've forgotten. Here's the... Read More
Overall Movable Type 3.2 is a big step forward, but it does seem to be lacking in a few areas. One of the things in particular that it struggles from is a pretty weak internal spam filtering system. I do... Read More

Just in time! I gave my web server The Big Wipe last night and I need to reinstall MT among other things. I'm looking forward to it.
I *heart* that badge a la Netscape.
Time to take advantage of one of those new templates right Mr. Dash? Say goodbye to Purple!
Looks like OpenID works. :)
Great job on the update. 3.2 is very sweet. Definitely worth the wait. Now will Jay get to sleep?
Anil, just a hello from Danyel Smith. You hosted me a couple years back for my Virtual Book Tour.
Things look good over here!
best,

Hi Anil, thanks for the tip on templates. Worked like a charm :) Nice engine you've built there.
I just purchased this version, on a whim and a clueless attempt to start learning how to build a blog. I hope it works out well!
I'm just beginning to test MT 3.2 and it looks good so far, features- and aesthetics- wise. Just a little question: Is there a particular reason Six Apart continues to use "underscores" instead of "dashes" as word separators for entry filenames?
"Is there a particular reason Six Apart continues to use "underscores" instead of "dashes" as word separators for entry filenames?"
MT 3.2 makes it easy to choose either method, but underscores were an aesthetic choice, I think, and that way the URLs are the same as the default URLs in TypePad, so people can switch between the platforms while preserving their paths easily.
To be honest, I don't know why some tools are so fixated on appeasing people who treat Googlebot like some kind of angry voodoo god. If you write good enough content, it doesn't matter what separator you're using for words in your URLs. The converse is true as well.

Yes, indeed! And I'm pleased to find out that the new basename feature basically allows anyone to put in almost anything to serve as the entry filename. Kudos to 6A for the latest release.
