Experimenting With AdSense
May 24, 2005
Just because I like to try new things out, I threw Google's AdSense for Feeds on my Atom feed that lots of you are subscribed to. I'll probably take it off, but if you want to fuss in the meantime, you can come to this post and flame me in the comments.
I think it's pretty cool the AdSense markup generator gives you the template tags for your Movable Type or TypePad blog. Handy!

No flames, but I wish you hadn't added them to a bunch of old posts too: suddenly I have about a dozen re-downloaded posts (I guess it depends on NewsGator's 'treat modified posts as new' setting).
And your ads? Haven't seen them: Google's 'text' ads are served as images, and I have Outlook not download images unless I say so (that may be the default, I forget). And even then, my standard Proxomitron (old skool for greasemonkey ;) filters would give short shrift to image links laden with words like 'imageads', 'pagead', 'imgclick', 'ad_map', 'ads'.
Why are they images, btw? They're just html/text on Google web pages, and I don't block them (well, not at the side, anyway, where they don't interfere with the display of the content).
If a blog regularly included images I'd like to see, I could allow them on a per-site or per-sender basis. Or just right-click/download will grab individual posts' images. But image ads, that would more than double the size of most such posts in my .pst store? Even googlecuddly, relevant ads? Unlikely ...
That's a bit tough on nice bloggers, but the scuzzy advertisers/profilers made their bed a long time ago, and newcomers will have to lay in it too.
Sorry about the line spacing: your Preview understates the effect of br>'s.
You sell out :)
Tee hee...it's showing a Blogger ad.
Hmm i kinda disagree with using ad-sense in feeds.
Read http://a.wholelottanothing.org/features/2005/05/why_adsense_for.html
it gives good reasons why not to use it in feeds.
Anyway not flaming just different opnions.
