Tom Watson's take on Dan Rather's resignation seems exactly right to me. Be careful the gloating you do and the negativity you celebrate, because they'll be visited upon you one day. I wouldn't expect everyone in the TV industry to celebrate the day that a network decides to take down a blogger, either.

Yes, but there's a difference between David felling Goliath, and vice-versa.
I read Tom Watson's entry scrutinizing the self-congratulatory attitude taken by some over Dan Rather's changing role with CBS. No doubt there are many who envision themselves more boldly than they actually are. I wish he had included some of what this Slate article puts so well:
primarily, that Rather isn't "stepping down" but that he's dedicating himself to pure investigative journalism, which to me seems more like a promotion, if the truth is seen as the highest good in journalism.
