I'm wondering, in what ways has Timbaland changed? Aside from the JT collaboration which (I think) cannot stand on its own as a change in his route, can you give us any recent examples?

I'll bite. Timbaland has transitioned throughout his production career. His early stuff was a lot of minimalist beats (see Missy Elliott's entire Supafly album), he then started working in abstract sounds over expansive drum tracks (see Aaliyah's "Tell Me Are You That Somebody" and most of Ginuwine's 100% as well as the Timbaland and Magoo album) he then moved into the sped up bhangra beats.

His work with Mister JT mostly feels like a combination of all of those soundscapes.

Now he's reworking old school hip hop tracks something lovely. I call that a transitional producer.

Timbaland is more risk taking than Dre who, much like the neptunes, sticks with his initial influences (70s funk and soul tracks in Dre's case) but I put Dre on a different level just because his production is so crisp. I don't think any hip hop producer can hold a candle to Dre behind a board. Nor do I think any other hip hop producer is as adept at creating tracks that are just right for a given artist to flow over.

But what were we talking about again?
