high concept parody

September 16, 2003

I have all these high-concept ideas for sites that I never get around to building. One of them was going to be an anonymous parody of myself, a big purple blog with a bunch of posts about arcane details about New York City, some weblog triumphalism, and a sidebar of links all promoting Six Apart products. Maybe bonus points for any subtle references to really bad pop albums. But, frankly, I'm too lazy. If I just throw the idea out there, can we consider it having been implemented and just have a good laugh together?

Anil talks about things that should have been: I have all these high-concept ideas for sites that I never get around to building. I'm exactly the same. I have LOADS of great ideas for sites that would bring in some... Read More

Taken and in progress. http://wootest.net/anil/

I'd love to see your takes on this though.

Elapsed time from proposal to implementation: 22 minutes. Go, LazyWeb!

I brought up the subject in IM, Andy.

Okay, mine's pretty much done now. http://wootest.net/anil/

I'm still trying to figure out how your description is a parody of your current self? :)

I have the same problem - but my wife hogs the computer all the time! and by the time I get it it's like midnight and I lose my fizzle.. hehe..

If I ever finished all my unfinished projects, I think I'd lose the will to live. :)

wait, i thought that's exactly what this site was!

big up to Jesper! you should become the new editorial voice of gawker.

Let's bring it outside, franz!
Oh, wait, that was praise. Nevermind. :)

Thanks.

One of them was going to be an anonymous parody of myself, a big purple blog with a bunch of posts about arcane details about New York City, some weblog triumphalism, and a sidebar of links all promoting Six Apart products.

And this is different than your normal site? Me thinks you should look up the word 'parody'.

(but asking for others to parody your site and people responding is a genius job of getting an ego stroke)

One problem, I'm too lazy to imagine it. Can you tell me how funny it was and how hard to laugh?

Jesper, your parody is awesome :)

Jesper, you've got about 55% of a great parody; as soon as I figure out just what it's missing, I'll contact you and put you to work...

But I thought the next Great Topical Convergence would be when "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" does a makeover on a high-profile Blogging personality. And, considering they're based in the NYC area, and there is this infamous picture floating around the web of a SixApart employee wearing a Blogger t-shirt, well, Anil, you know what you gotta do.

Funny, this site LOOKS like an anonymous parody of yourself, a big purple blog with a bunch of posts about arcane details about New York City, some weblog triumphalism, and a sidebar of links all promoting Six Apart products.

:-)

I like the idea of prizes for guessing the references - kind of like what flavorpill does (they give away prizes if people can guess the theme to their credits each week).

Ha ha! You said you never got around to building it. Good one!

Yes, it's conceptual art.

Why do not I see me posts???
