It's been about 10 years, where's the Best of Method Man collection? You could fill a strong 2-disc set or one bangin' solid CD of tunes with Meth's tracks, even without getting into all his duets, guest appearances, and wu-tang stuff. It's damned near impossible to grab all his stuff from soundtracks and collections unless you're a diehard, and he's got more charisma than any working rapper today (with the possible exception of Busta Rhymes or Snoop) so it would be well worth revisiting his career.

Don't make me have to download all the MP3s and burn it myself, dammit.

I've been saying the same thing about a collection of Prince's 12 inch singles and b-sides for years. Isn't it ridiculous that we still can't just go to a record company's site and build our own legal compilation?

I'd be more than satisfied if he simply put out a new album...

His solo albums are really week - it's only in collaborations where he truly shines. Outside of Bring the Pain, does any solo Meth track make a wu-tang top 50 list? I don't think so. (Remember Method Man is a Wu track.) The core Wu members are 15 or 16 albums deep, and I think it's pretty clear that Ghostface is the most charasmatic and intelligent, followed by Raekwon.

Oh good god DJ, Ghostface?? Absolutely no way, no how. His and Raekwon's clownish bling-bling banter got tiresome back on Only Built for Cuban Linx and Ironman, and now it's just unlistenable. The GZA is the strongest Wu-lyricist by a longshot.

What would a Method Man best-of look like? Does his stuff with Redman count? I agree that his solo work doesn't compare with his inumerable cameos (What the Blood Clot notwithstanding), so it'd have to count those. As a few names, I'll throw out Shadowboxing (w/ the GZA), How High (w/ Redman), Extortion (w/ Mobb Deep), and Got the Flava (w/ Show and AG).

GZA might be the best "rhymer" in the strictest sense of the word, but Ghost and Rae clearly have more creativity and charisma. On all the Meth songs you note above, he's clearly outclassed by his partners. That's why his solo stuff sucks - he can't carry a song - with the exception of Method Man which is now over ten years old. His career is marketing genius. Have you heard Love Session?

Just like a fresh pair of Royals on the first day of school / It was love, even from the jump I spoiled you / Before the fame camera cars and the glitter / Though my occupation is tasty for God's sake it came with the bitches / But that's on another note (uh - huh) let me explain here / Right now sugar on how I feel for you / Like when we UHH yo I get these crazy chills from you / And when we done, yo I know the perfect meal for you / The mashed joints, big onions on sauteed fish / Little Royal, candle and one big kiss
